Number 1: Keep in touch!
We’ve reached number 1 in the countdown of Holly’s Top Tips for Isolation! She’s definitely saved the best ’til last; keep in touch.
At a time when we have to physically be distant, it’s more important than ever to stay in touch with one another. The social support we have is closely linked to our mental well-being. That means the more we feel we have family and friends around us to support us, the less likely we are to feel depressed or anxious. Loneliness doesn’t discriminate, and in this situation, we need to make sure we’re talking to our loved ones on a regular basis.
Luckily, there are a plethora of ways to keep in contact, with new platforms seemingly being rolled out every other day! And as a nation, we’ve become inventive in the way we keep in touch. The rise of the virtual pub quiz, Netflix parties, online gaming, and good old phone calls; it seems we’re placing more emphasis on our connections now. In a world where texting, emails, and social media messages were the primary forms of communication, we’ve come back round to what we as humans need the most. The sound of others’ voices. Eye contact with our families (albeit through a screen). We’ve come to realise the importance of keeping in touch, and hopefully, when this pandemic is over, it’s a lesson we can remember.
