Holly's Top Tips for Isolation: Number 4
Holly, who's spent over two years in isolation due to treatment for her Neurofibromatosis, give us some help on how to cope with lockdown. Here is her Top Tips for Isolation: Number 4.
Number 4: Wish Jar
We’ve got Holly’s top tips for isolation: number 4 today, and it’s an activity that’s close to Holly’s heart. When Holly is going through periods of isolation, she keeps a Wish Jar. Her’s is a nice, tall, repurposed jar that her sister has decorated for her, and in it are her wishes.
The premise is simple enough. When you’re stuck in isolation and you wish you could do something, you write it on some paper and put it in the jar. Then when normality returns, you make sure to do everything in that jar.
It could be anything, from “I wish I could visit my friends” to “I wish I could go to the zoo” or “I wish I could go to my favourite restaurant”.
Vicky, Holly’s mum, explained that the intent behind the Wish Jar was so that Holly and her family didn’t lose perspective. It’s the little things in life that we miss, and can take for granted, so the Wish Jar really helps remind people to be grateful for the freedoms they have.
We at Really Real Resources think this is a fantastic idea, and some of us have started our own Wish Jar. Society, for the most part, has rallied together to help each other out during this pandemic. Hopefully, going forward, we can all maintain this level of kindness. Completing a wish from a Wish Jar will undoubtedly help us remember how much we craved the smallest freedoms, and serve as a reminder to take nothing for granted.
