Holly's Top Tips for Isolation: Number 9
Holly, who's spent over two years in isolation due to treatment for her Neurofibromatosis, give us some help on how to cope with lockdown. Here is her Top Tips for Isolation: Number 9.
Number 9: Do your make-up, hair, or nails
Holly recorded these top tip videos with a rainbow adorned cheek. Which is extremely fitting, as her tips for isolation: number 9 is to, in her own words, paint your hair, paint your face, or do your nails.
For kids, face painting is a way of transforming into someone else – be it Spiderman, a fierce lion, or a sneaky cat. It gives kids a literal mask and allows them to be bolder and more confident.
This is a trait that carries over to adult life and the application of make-up. There’s a psychological phenomenon called the “lipstick effect” which proves that wearing make-up, or painting your nails can boost confidence and self-esteem.
And lastly, hair. No trips to the hairdresser mean we have to got for a bit of trimming DIY. This is leading to some great home dye jobs, some fabulous new styles, and a lot of shaved heads! Although it may seem trivial, changing your hair is a great way of keeping mentally healthy, as it allows you to physically embody changes to your life.
So follow Holly’s advice. Do your make-up. Paint your face. Cut that hair. And stay tuned for tip number 8!
